The City Cemetery of Sacramento is the oldest continuously operating cemetery in California, established in 1849 during the Gold Rush era. The cemetery reflects the extraordinary diversity of Sacramento's early population, with graves of Chinese immigrants, Mexican settlers, European pioneers, and Gold Rush-era figures. It contains an important collection of Victorian funerary art and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
