Green-Wood Cemetery was established in 1838 and is a National Historic Landmark, recognized for its influence on the development of urban parks in America. Its 478 acres of rolling hills and scenic paths drew over 500,000 visitors annually before Central Park existed, inspiring Frederick Law Olmsted. It is the final resting place of many of New York's most influential figures from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
