Lakewood Cemetery, founded in 1871, is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the Midwest, featuring 250 acres of landscaped grounds on the shores of Lake Calhoun (now Bde Maka Ska). The cemetery is famous for its stunning Byzantine-style memorial chapel and its collection of significant monuments and sculptures. It serves as the final resting place of many of Minnesota's most distinguished citizens.
