Mount Auburn Cemetery

Mount Auburn Cemetery was the first garden cemetery in the United States, established in 1831 as a revolutionary departure from crowded urban churchyards. Its 175 acres of naturalistic landscape design influenced the creation of parks and cemeteries across the country and pioneered what became known as the rural cemetery movement. It is a National Historic Landmark and an active site for nature study and horticulture.
