Oakland Cemetery

Atlanta, Georgia · Established 1850

Oakland Cemetery, established in 1850 as Atlanta City Cemetery, is the city's oldest surviving landmark. The 48-acre Victorian cemetery is the resting place of 70,000 people, including many Civil War soldiers from both sides of the conflict, six Georgia governors, and numerous Atlanta pioneers. Restored and revitalized in the 1970s, it remains an active cemetery and a beloved green space in the heart of Atlanta.
